Russia does not stop threatening of using nuclear weapons in response to Western aid to Ukraine. However, there is currently no risk of nuclear escalation by Russia.

This was stated by the senior representative of NATO in Ukraine, Patrick Turner, during an interview with "Ukrinform".

Nuclear risks

"Russia has been rattling with nuclear weapons for quite some time, and of course there is a threat that this will destabilize and undermine nuclear deterrence," he said.

According to the latest NATO assessments, there is currently no serious risk of any nuclear escalation by Russia. At the same time, they are monitoring what is happening in reality and Russia's nuclear doctrine.

Turner emphasized that NATO exists for defense and deterrence: it has all the capabilities to protect its allies, so such Russia's behavior will not stop the Alliance.

"In such a field, excessive rhetoric is useless, so we are not going to get involved in it. We will continue to be calm and balanced, making decisions necessary to support Ukraine," he added.

Turner also named three reasons, besides the war, why NATO has not yet invited Ukraine to the Alliance.

In addition, the North Atlantic Alliance recently started its annual military trainings. In particular, member states will train how to use the nuclear weapons.
