Ozzy Osbourne's funeral
Although he spent most of his career in the United States, Birmingham, England remained his hometown — the industrial center where he was born and took his first steps in music. It was decided that the rock legend would be buried there. Thousands of devoted fans came to pay their respects.
The Birmingham City Council said it had made every effort to ensure the public portion of the funeral ceremony was conducted in a dignified and safe manner.
The hearse carrying Ozzy Osbourne's body first traveled through central Birmingham. Some fans climbed onto the roofs of bus stops and other elevated structures along the route to get a better view of the funeral procession.
An orchestra at the front of the procession performed classic hits by Black Sabbath and Osbourne. Accompanied by her children, Jack and Kelly, Sharon Osbourne, the singer's widow, laid flowers at Ozzy's memorial while crying.
