Information about the number of internally displaced persons returning to the occupied territories is only an assumption. There are no verified statistics.

This was announced by MP, member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Human Rights Maksym Tkachenko, Ukrinform reported on Monday, November 25.

How many IDPs actually returned to the TOT

Tkachenko recently said that about 150,000 IDPs have returned to the temporarily occupied territories. According to him, about 67-70 thousand people have come to Mariupol.

On Monday, November 25, the MP denied his own statement about the number of IDPs, noting that it was an unfounded assumption.

"There is no such data. It was my unfounded and emotional assumption," Tkachenko told.

He stated that he had spoken incorrectly and would like to retract his words.

"In some cases, Ukrainians are forced to travel to the temporarily occupied territories, but we are not talking about hundreds or even tens of thousands, and there can be no general verified statistics even theoretically," emphasized the member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Human Rights.

As a reminder, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Iryna Vereshchuk denied MPs' statements about thousands of IDPs going back to the TOT.

"There is no confirmed statistics and it cannot be, it is only hype for the sake of loud headlines," emphasized Vereshchuk.

Earlier, former Deputy Minister for Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons Heorhii Tuka said that Ukrainians are returning to the TOT in large numbers.
