Fine for Meta Platforms
The EU said that Meta had mistakenly tied Facebook Marketplace to the social network Facebook and created unfair conditions for advertising providers. The company was ordered to stop these practices.
Commissioner Margrethe Vestager noted that Meta's actions were aimed "at supporting its own Facebook Marketplace service by giving it advantages that other online advertising providers could not compete with".
The company said they would appeal.
As a reminder, the European Commission has started checking the Chinese online platform Temu to assess its compliance with European standards for digital services.
The European Commission will also file a lawsuit with the European Court of Justice against Hungary over the "sovereignty protection" law.
