Former member of the National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities Olga Babiy criticized statements about electricity tariff increases. She considers expert assumptions on this issue inadequate.

Babiy said this in a comment to Novyny.LIVE on Thursday, November 14.

Electricity tariff increases

Babiy explained that the electricity tariff for household consumers is formed based on the market price, which is higher for business.

"The part of this price that is not covered by the population is compensated by Ukrenergoatom and Ukrhydroenergo at the expense of their income," Babiy explained.

The expert also added that pseudo-specialists do not have access to information about the financial capabilities of companies that compensate for the difference in tariffs for the population.

"This "forecast" is aimed at generating hype and leads to negative consequences, because many experts, not realizing the impact of their words on society, create sensational news to increase their own recognition," the former head of the National Commission for the Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities of Ukraine emphasized.

We previously wrote that the NBU does not predict an increase in tariffs for gas, heat and hot water until the end of next year. However, these changes may still occur in 2026.

We also wrote that the cost of water in large cities will remain at the level set in February 2024. However, in small settlements, the situation is somewhat different.
