Russian troops continue to attack the energy infrastructure of Ukraine purposefully, especially in the border areas. The main goal is to cause maximum damage and create difficulties for the population.

Deputy Minister of Energy Roman Andarak reported this in a blitz interview with a journalist of Novyny.LIVE Halyna Ostapovets on Wednesday, December 11.

What is the situation with the energy sector in Ukraine

Andarak claimed that Russian troops are constantly shelling Ukraine's generation.

"In fact, attacks on Ukraine's energy sector do not stop. There are shelling, strikes by drones and guided bombs almost every day," the Deputy Head of the Ministry of Energy noted.

According to him, frontline regions are particularly affected by the strikes, but the Russians are also targeting key electricity transmission hubs in other regions, as they understand how our energy system is built.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that the intensity of attacks on medium-voltage substations has also increased recently.

"These are substations of distribution system operators located in frontline regions. Again, the goal is to cause us as much pain as possible, to cause as much suffering as possible to our population," Andarak noted.

As a reminder, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal announced that Germany has contributed more than 360 million euros to the fund for supporting Ukraine's energy sector. A significant amount will also be directed to restoring the energy system.

Previously, we reported that Germany is allocating an additional 70 million euros to Ukraine. These funds will be used to purchase small thermal power plants, boiler houses and other power equipment.
