The newly elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, is keen to end the war in Ukraine. America will be able to put pressure on Russia on this issue.
It was stated by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an interview with Polish journalists on Thursday, January 16.
Who Russia is afraid of
Zelenskyy noted that Trump sends public and non-public messages about ending the war.
"This is the leader who can put pressure on Russia. I am sure that Russia is afraid of America and China. And he is afraid of a united Europe. From the point of view of the army, as I have already told you, Europe is not able to fight Russia without the Ukrainian army. The Russian army is bigger than all the armies of the European Union combined. It has more weapons, more people, and more arrogance. Because Europeans are civilized, they are not used to this. They don’t know what it is. Thank God they live in peace and democracy and do not know what war is. But Russia knows and has experience," the President said.
The Head of State emphasized that the Armed Forces of the European Union had no chance without the Ukrainian army.
"Putin understands this perfectly well. He conveys it to his environment. Ukraine is not a wall for protection or occupation. It is not. It is a question of occupying the whole of Europe. And he can do it very quickly. I am convinced that this is a fact. Therefore, when you ask whether we can stop it this year, we must do everything possible," the Ukrainian leader underlined.
Zelenskyy added that Ukraine now has a strong partner in America, and the European Union has become even stronger.
"They are already increasing production. The European Union needs to be more pragmatic and increase its own production by 2-3 times. For its own sake. What they give Ukraine is good. But they may also need it in the future. They need it not to fight, but to let Russians know that Europe is capable. So that Russia understands that Europe produces more and that Europe is capable," the President believes.
The Ukrainian leader noted that it is necessary to reach an agreement with Trump in order to have concrete security guarantees for Ukraine.
"He must force Putin to turn to diplomacy and end the war. I believe that Trump is capable of doing this, and God willing, he will be able to offer real security guarantees to Ukraine. This is not just an offer or some kind of business, something like "take it or leave it". No, we need real security guarantees that will mean for us, for Europe, and even for the Russians that these are real guarantees that Ukraine will be able to defend itself and others if Putin goes on the offensive again," Zelenskyy concluded.
Earlier, in the same interview, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy claimed that the situation on the front in the east of Ukraine is the most difficult. The Russians have an advantage in terms of number of people, but they suffer heavy losses.
