No agreement with Hungary without a clause on NATO — Zelenskyy

The bilateral document with Hungary has not been signed, because it does not include support from Budapest for Ukraine's membership in NATO. This is an important clause for Ukraine.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this on Thursday, November 7, at a press conference following his participation in the summit of the European Political Community.

Agreement between Ukraine and Hungary

The President noted that the bilateral agreement must take into account the interests of both Ukraine and Hungary.

"Both sides. Support for Ukraine in the EU is important for us, support for Ukraine in NATO by Hungary. The document currently does not include support for Ukraine from Hungary in NATO. Since there is no such thing, this document has not been signed. That's the end of it," Zelenskyy noted.

The President also stated that Ukraine supports Hungary's membership in the European Union and NATO. And our country expects the same in return.

"If you ask me about Ukraine's attitude towards Hungary, you will get a quick answer. We are ready to do anything, so that there are no questions between us. But if the Hungarian side has questions on any Ukrainian issue, then I believe that this is not right," the President said.

Zelenskyy added that the bilateral agreement is a confirmation of respect for each other.

It should be recalled that Germany offered Ukraine an alternative to NATO a "neutral" status, following the example of Finland.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine once abandoned nuclear weapons, so it is important for our country to join NATO.
