Ukrainian energy system has suffered heavy damage due to Russia's constant massive attacks. This is the reason why a significant electricity shortage is expected in winter — the eastern regions will suffer the most.

This was reported by Inna Sovsun, a deputy of the Ukrainian Parliament from the "Golos" party and a member of the Committee on Energy, Housing and Utilities Services, in the interview with Novyny.LIVE.

What cities will have the biggest shortage of electricity

Due to constant shelling from Russia, the largest part of the destroyed generation is placed exactly in the east of Ukraine.

"Two large power plants are located in the west of Ukraine, and our task is to transfer electricity to the east. But in the case of the transmission system destruction, it may happen very suddenly that there is generation, but there is no possibility of transferring it to Kharkiv. Or it may happen that some regions have electricity almost 24 hours, while others do not. And that was a reason," Inna Sovsun explained.

In Zaporizhia, the electricity situation is also difficult due to constant strikes on energy transmission facilities.

"Of course, the minimum decisions that the local authorities can make is to install turbines which could at least help during emergency situations. It is really necessary for Kharkiv, because the risks are too high that electricity will be produced in the country, but it will be impossible to transfer it to Kharkiv," the deputy added.

It should be recalled that Russia struck a residential area of Kharkiv on September 21, as a result of which 13 people were injured.

In addition, on September 23, the Russian Federation launched seven guided aerial bombs on Zaporizhia. 17 people were injured, including one child.
