General Staff reacted to threats and violence in the 211 brigade
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi sent a commission of the Military Service of Law and Order to the 211th brigade. The commander of the military unit was ousted from performing his official duties during the inspection.
This was reported by the press service of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Monday, December 16.
The 211th brigade will be inspected
The General Staff noted that, by decision of Syrskyi, the military unit will be inspected for possible abuses by officials of the 211th Pontoon-Bridge Brigade of the Support Forces Command UAF.
"The commander of the military unit was ousted from performing his official duties during the inspection. The progress and results of the inspection will be reported in accordance with the procedure established by the legislation of Ukraine," the message says.
It is also noted that an official inspection was already conducted in September of this year on some of the indicated facts.
"Based on its results, materials were collected and transferred to the competent authorities, where appropriate criminal proceedings were initiated," the General Staff emphasized.
It should be reminded, that a scandal broke out in the 211th Pontoon-Bridge Brigade due to extortion of money, beatings and even tying servicemen to a cross. The brigade commander is Colonel Oleh Poberezhnyuk, journalists revealed a number of abuses related to his leadership.
There were personnel changes at the Petro Sahaidachnyi National Academy of Ground Forces — Lieutenant General Pavlo Tkachuk was dismissed from his position as a chief. This decision was made amidst a scandal regarding the illegality of his actions towards cadets.
