In 2024, Ukraine returned home 449 children who were illegally deported by Russia and held in the temporarily occupied territories.

This was reported in the Office of the President on Monday, January 6.

Return of Ukrainian children

The agency said that in 2024, thanks to the Bring Kids Back UA initiative, Ukraine returned 449 Ukrainian children home.

"Little Ukrainians who were illegally deported, forcibly displaced or detained in the temporarily occupied territories are now back with their families. Each return is a story of renewed hope, preserved childhood and the victory of justice," the statement reads.

The President's Office emphasized that Ukraine is making every effort to ensure that the voices of children and their families are heard. According to the agency, the country is using all international platforms: from Burgenstock to Montreal, from Brussels to New York, from Cape Town to Mexico City, from the Peace Summit and the Montreal Conference to the UN Security Council, to unite the world and increase pressure on Russia.

"This year, our goal remains the same: to bring every Ukrainian child home. Ukrainian children deserve to grow up in their native land, surrounded by love, security and hope for a bright future," emphasized the Office.

They also thanked international partners and emphasized that the return of Ukrainian children would not have been possible without our allies, both in Ukraine and abroad.

As a reminder, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently told how many children were abducted by the Russian Federation from Kherson.

He also explained why the return of children from Russia is so slow. According to him, the process of returning Ukrainian children is much more complicated than the exchange of military prisoners.
