US allocates $15 billion from Russia's frozen assets to Ukraine
Ukraine will receive additional financial assistance from the United States that amounts to $15 billion. These are funds from the frozen assets of the Russian Federation.
This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal via Telegram on Monday, December 30.
The US allocates $15 billion to Ukraine
According to Shmyhal, the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine has signed an agreement with the World Bank to provide Ukraine with $15 billion. These funds are secured by future income from frozen Russian assets.
"These will be funds under the PEACE in Ukraine project and a part of the US contribution of $20 billion under the G7 initiative, which will be used for social and humanitarian spending. We thank the United States and the World Bank for implementing and supporting the initiative that makes Russia pay for its aggression against Ukraine," Shmyhal said.
As a reminder, the United States has allocated almost $2.5 billion to Ukraine, the last aid package from Joe Biden as president.
Ukraine received 150 million euros from the European Union. These funds will be used, among other things, to provide meals for children in schools.
