Ukraine wanted to buy weapons from South Korea. Minister of Defense, Rustem Umerov, visited the country with this issue, but Ukraine was refused.

This was reported by the SBS publication on Wednesday, November 27.

Why did South Korea refuse to sell weapons to Ukraine

As the publication notes, Minister of Defense, Rustem Umerov, has recently visited the country with a "wish list". Ukraine wanted to purchase anti-aircraft missiles and artillery installations.

"The weapons that Ukraine actively requested to sell are non-lethal weapons, such as the Cheongung interception system, a local air defense radar and an anti-artillery radar," the publication's source reported.

However, it is noted that Ukraine was refused. This happened because South Korean legislation still prohibits the export of weapons to warring countries.

"This is because independent support for weapons could lead to further response from Russia, as well as tensions between Korea and the United States," the publication notes.

It should be recalled that on Wednesday, November 27, Ukrainian Minister of Defense,  Rustem Umerov arrived on a working visit to South Korea on behalf of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He spoke there with the President of South Korea, Minister of Defense, and national security adviser.

South Koreans oppose direct arms supplies to Ukraine. Seoul emphasized that it is ready to consider this option, depending on future steps by Russia and North Korea.
