President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Secretary General of NATO Mark Rutte. The Parties focused on key security and defense issues.

Zelenskyy reported it on Telegram on Thursday, January 9.

What Zelenskyy and Rutte talked about

The conversation focused on the issue of further strengthening Ukraine’s Air Defence, which is critical to protecting civilians and infrastructure from Russian missile attacks.

They also considered the possibility of involving NATO countries in the purchase of Ukrainian arms using the Danish model of cooperation. This approach involves close integration and coordination of efforts to support Ukraine in the defense sector.

The partners discussed the common task of creating the conditions for a just and lasting peace. NATO can play a key role in implementing this goal.

Particular attention was paid to the possibilities of NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine (NSATU) platform, which can become an effective tool for strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities and stabilizing the situation in the region.

As a reminder, Rutte considers Zelenskyy’s criticism of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to be unfair. The media reported that the Secretary General personally requested the Ukrainian leader to stop it.

We also wrote that Zelenskyy held an important meeting with Rutte in Brussels in December. During the negotiations, the focus was on strengthening Ukraine’s Air Defence System and creating conditions for a lasting peace.
