Emmanuel Macron believes that Ukrainians should have "realistic discussions" on territorial issues. He noted that there will be no quick and easy solution.

This was reported by Le Monde on Monday, January 6.

Macron's statement on the talks

During a meeting with French ambassadors, the President of France said that the West's credibility would be undermined if they agreed to a compromise because of "conflict fatigue". He also noted that the United States should be interested in Ukraine's victory.

"The new American president himself knows that the United States has no chance of winning anything if Ukraine loses," Macron said.

He also suggested, for the first time, that Kyiv would have to give up at least some of the occupied territories. Macron added that Ukrainians will have to have realistic discussions on territorial issues. He also emphasized that the United States should help convince Russia to come to the negotiating table.

"The capitulation of Ukraine cannot be useful for Europeans and Americans," Macron said.

As a reminder, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine needs to be in a strong position for negotiations. He is convinced that the war can be ended with the help of the US President.

The commander of the Third Assault Brigade, Andrii Biletskyi, believes that the expectation of a ceasefire with Russia demotivates Ukrainian soldiers and can negatively affect the decisions of officers. This situation can lead to even greater casualties.
