The Government of Canada has granted Ukraine a concessional loan of 400 million Canadian dollars (almost 300 million USD). The funds will be used to finance budget expenditures.

This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal on Thursday, October 17, via Telegram.

Financial assistance from Canada

Shmyhal stressed that the funds have already been transferred to the state budget. However, he did not specify the preferential terms under which Canada provided the financial assistance.

"I am grateful to Canada for its unwavering solidarity. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, we have received $5.4 billion in direct budgetary support from our Canadian partners," the Prime Minister said.

According to him, this is an important contribution to Ukraine's resilience. The country is using these funds to finance key budget expenditures and meet its obligations to the citizens.

On October 14, a delegation from the House of Commons of the Canada led by Speaker Greg Fergus visited Ukraine. Representatives of all political parties in the country arrived in Kyiv.

On the same day, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with the delegation. He emphasized the importance of this visit as a symbol of Canada's continued support for Ukraine.
