NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte reacted to the first step of Ukraine's Victory Plan, which envisages inviting our country to become a member of the Alliance. He reminded that it had already been agreed that Ukraine's path to NATO was irreversible.

Rutte said this at a joint press conference with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson in Brussels.

Victory plan and NATO

During the press conference, Rutte was asked whether he agrees with the first step of the Victory Plan for Ukraine regarding the need to invite it to join the Alliance and whether the relevant work is being done with the allies.

Rutte reminded that he had already visited Kyiv two weeks ago and talked with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy on this topic.

"I am very well aware of all the elements of the Victory Plan. As you also know, NATO in Washington decided to make the path to NATO membership irreversible for Ukraine. This was clearly stated," Rutte emphasized.

He added that the allies are in close contact with Ukraine to find out how successful and fruitful the next steps can be.

In addition, the Secretary General of the Alliance noted that he could not provide all the internal details of the negotiations.

As Rutte said, significant discussions are taking place regarding the Victory Plan for Ukraine and all opportunities are being used to make a further step-by-step decision.

At the same time, he stated that many events are taking place regarding the issue of rapprochement between Ukraine and the Alliance.

The meeting of defense ministers of the North Atlantic Alliance will start in Brussels on Thursday, October 17. It will last for three days.

As a reminder, Zelenskyy named Ukraine's invitation to NATO a step of the Victory Plan.
