Ukrainian energy facilities are more reliably protected from Russian attacks not by passive special equipment and facilities, but by active air defense systems. They can prevent the devastating consequences of Russian attacks.

This was stated by Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko at the Energy of Business forum in Kyiv, RBC-Ukraine reports.

How to protect energy facilities in Ukraine from Russian attacks

Herman Halushchenko said that active defense of Ukrainian energy facilities is much more effective, citing the massive Russian attack on August 26 as an example, when the occupiers used the most advanced weapons and where passive defense was powerless.

"The only solution that gives a 100 percent guarantee (of protection of facilities — ed.), so to speak, is air defense systems and the ability to shoot down such weapons. Therefore, strengthening air defense is the answer to all questions," the minister said.

Halushchenko also emphasized the importance of considering the timeline for constructing the third line of defense and avoiding projects scheduled too far in advance.

"If we see that it is possible to complete such facilities within the next year, it is worth doing. If we see that the facility will be completed in 2026, 2027, I think we should stop there," the energy minister said.

As a reminder, Herman Halushchenko also outlined the conditions under which Ukrainians will get through the winter without power outages

Also, Oleksandr Kharchenko, Director of the Energy Research Center, explained how the energy system in Ukraine should be rebuilt after the war and what should be dramatically changed.

Earlier, MP Viktoria Hryb explained why there are problems with the construction of the second level of protection at power facilities.
