US President Joe Biden has asked Congress to provide Ukraine with an additional $24 billion in long-term military support. Republicans have already condemned the reported request.

This was reported by Politico and the New York Post.

Additional aid to Ukraine from the United States

Citing anonymous congressmen, the publication noted that Congress received the request on Monday, November 25. In it, Biden proposes to allocate a new tranche of emergency Pentagon funding to supply weapons and equipment to Ukraine and replenish the stockpiles of weapons transferred to Kyiv.

Of the total amount, $16 billion is to be used to replenish U.S. stockpiles. The remaining $8 billion will go to the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, under which the Pentagon signs contracts with American companies to arm the Ukrainian armed forces.

At the same time, some Republicans are outraged by this request and demand that Biden's request be rejected.

"Joe Biden has just gave away 4.7 billion in your taxpayer dollars by unilaterally "forgiving" loans to Ukraine. Congress must not give him a free gift to further sabotage President Trump's peace negotiations on the way out the door. Any Biden funding demand should be DOA," wrote Senator Mike Lee in his X.

As a reminder, on November 17, the NYT reported that Biden for the first time allowed Ukraine to use American long-range weapons, including ATACMS missiles, to strike Russia.

Shortly afterward, the US State Department officially confirmed Ukraine's permission to strike at Russia and said that such actions could force Russia to enter into peace talks.

In addition, Joe Biden authorized the provision of anti-personnel mines to Ukraine. This is another part of the urgent actions to help Ukraine that the US president has been talking about.
