Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico made a loud statement regarding Ukraine's membership in NATO and the European Union. According to Fico, Slovakia has a "cold" attitude towards Ukraine's accession to the Alliance, but with regard to EU membership, they can speak of full support.

Robert Fico said this during an intergovernmental meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal in Uzhhorod on Monday, October 7.

Slovakia's position about entry of Ukraine in NATO and the EU

"I speak frankly: we are cold towards the issue of Ukraine's membership in NATO, but we support you 100% in relation to the EU. Your membership will be important and valuable for us," Fico said.

The Prime Minister of Slovakia emphasized that his country actively supports the granting of EU member status to Ukraine.

"There will be countries in the EU that will wish that this process of Ukraine's accession to the EU would not be so fast. We will not be like that. A lot depends on you and your reforms, but we will not create any obstacles," Fico assured.

It should be recalled that Fico previously stated that he would like to restore normal relations with Russia after the end of the war. He is also in favor of preserving the transit of Russian raw materials to Europe through Ukraine.

Novyny.LIVE also wrote that Fico made a statement that he will block Ukraine's accession to NATO while he is in power.
