Ukraine is discussing with the United States the provision of weapons capable of shooting down intercontinental missiles. Currently, our country does not have such capabilities.

Ukrinform reported this on Friday, November 22, citing its sources in the Armed Forces.

Ukraine asks for new weapons

"Ukraine does not have the means to shoot down intercontinental missiles, but the Americans do. Ukraine will turn to the United States for the transfer of such weapons", the statement reads.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces noted that it could be about modernizing Patriots. It is also possible that Ukraine will receive an Aegis missile defense system.

The same sources reported that the launch of experimental missiles by the Russian invaders is a demonstration step. This is done to intimidate and to show the determination of their intentions.

The enemy does not have many such experimental missiles that was launched at Dnipro, the Armed Forces reported.

What is known about the Aegis missile defense system

The US Aegis missile defense system is designed to protect against short- and medium-range ballistic missiles.

The Aegis missile defense system is armed with Standard class anti-aircraft missiles. As of 2016, it is armed with RIM-161 SM-3 (Standard Missile 3) missiles capable of hitting air targets at extra-atmospheric altitudes.

Earlier, we wrote that a video allegedly showing the flight of an intercontinental ballistic missile was circulating online. The carrier left a bright mark in the sky.

Ukraine has also convened a meeting of the NATO Council to discuss Russia's use of the new Oreshnik ballistic missile.
