On Monday, October 28, at around 6 a.m., a Russian drone kamikaze "Shahed" flew critically close to one of the power units of the Khmelnytskyi NPP. This is a violation of the principles of nuclear and radiation safety of the NPP.

This was reported by the press service of Energoatom.

Threat to Khmelnytskyi NPP

With the beginning of the autumn-winter period, the aggressor is intensifying energy terror, trying to destroy the country's energy infrastructure. The enemy's actions are not only an act of aggression, but also a serious threat to nuclear safety.

"The enemy is consciously violating the principles of nuclear and radiation safety of nuclear power plants, resorting to outright terrorism. This must be stopped as soon as possible, because the consequences may be felt by the entire continent," the head of Energoatom,  Petro Kotin said.

Energoatom stated that in conditions of war, Ukraine calls on the world community to respond appropriately and take decisive steps to stop terrorist attacks on critical infrastructure facilities.

It should be recalled that MP Serhiy Nagornyak stated that Russia may be preparing missile strikes on Ukrainian nuclear facilities. Therefore, the State Enterprise "Energoatom" is building protective structures for nuclear power plants.

Previously, the director of the Energy Industry Research Center Oleksandr Kharchenko named the consequences in case if Russia strike a nuclear power plant.
