US Secretary of State explains how the war in Ukraine should end
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump aims to end the war in Ukraine in such a way that hostilities do not resume in a few years. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also noted that Ukrainians are paying the highest price in this war.
The new U.S. Secretary of State said this in an interview with CBS Mornings on Wednesday, January 22.
The U.S. is determined to prevent a recurrence of the war
"The conflict must end, and it is the policy of the United States to see it end. We want to do everything we can to help bring it to an end," Rubio said.
He added that the incoming administration under the new president will prioritize efforts to resolve the conflict in a sustainable manner. Rubio expressed his desire for the war to end decisively, ensuring it does not resurface in three or four years.
The Secretary of State also underscored the immense cost Ukraine is currently bearing — the devastation of its energy infrastructure, the lives lost, and the millions of Ukrainians forced to flee their homeland and live abroad.
Rubio further stated that "everyone should be very pleased" with Donald Trump’s election as president of the United States, noting that the new administration aims to "promote global peace and bring an end to these conflicts".
As we reported earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the United States have had intelligence contacts with the Russian Federation for all three years since the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
As a reminder, Zelenskyy also explained how to talk to Vladimir Putin.
