Giving up territories and more — WSJ revealed Trump's peace plan
Donald Trump has repeatedly stated during his re-election campaign that he allegedly knows how to end the war in Ukraine. Western media have revealed the secret of Trump's peace plan and what he may demand from Ukraine.
This was reported by the Wall Street Journal, citing its own anonymous sources close to Trump.
What Donald Trump can offer Ukraine to end the war
According to media sources, Donald Trump has not yet approved a specific peace plan. In particular, he has not yet decided how he should convince Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to sit down at the negotiating table.
Instead, the sources said that Trump wants Kyiv to promise not to join NATO for at least 20 years, and that the United States will supply Ukraine with all the weapons it needs to deter a future Russian attack.
Trump wants to freeze the war in Ukraine
The newly elected US president also wants the front line in Ukraine to be frozen and the parties to agree to demilitarize the zone. However, it is unclear which side should control the "gray" area, but one of Trump's anonymous advisers said that the peacekeeping force would definitely not involve American troops.
"We can provide training and other support, but the barrel of the gun will be European. We are not sending American men and women to keep the peace in Ukraine. And we will not pay for it. Let the Poles, Germans, British, and French do it," said one of Trump's team members.
The WSJ noted that earlier Trump's associates had offered him a plan of action where the United States should stop supplying weapons to pressure Kyiv to agree to peace talks with Russia.
It is not yet known which strategy Trump will choose. However, WSJ analysts are convinced that any attempt at peace talks carries many risks and problems. In particular, Russia and Ukraine pursue different military goals and do not want to change them. In addition, the Kremlin has been passive in its response to the negotiations, demonstrating a desire to deepen the military conflict.
Also, some NATO allies may react harshly to the negotiations, as the war in Ukraine is a threat to its countries. Meanwhile, the population of Ukraine may also react extremely negatively to ceding its own territories to Russia.
As a reminder, analysts from the Associated Press have recently made their own predictions about Donald Trump's future policy.
Meanwhile, a Republican senator said that the war in Ukraine has reached a dead end.
