Director of the Center for Energy Studies, Oleksandr Kharchenko, made both optimistic and pessimistic predictions about power outages in the fall and winter. According to him, everything will depend on the temperature.

Kharchenko said this in an interview with Glavred on Tuesday, October 1.

Power outages in the fall and winter

"It all depends on the temperatures. If they are conditionally in the range of 0 to +5°C, it will mean certain restrictions for 2–4 hours. This is in the current situation, that is, without additional attacks, without additional events at nuclear power plants," Kharchenko said.

According to him, if the temperature is between -10 and -15 degrees Celsius for two weeks, the restrictions may last 14–16 hours a day.

"Therefore, everything depends very much on what kind of attacks will take place, where they will be directed and how successful they will be, and at the same time on what kind of weather conditions will be in winter," Kharchenko added.

As a reminder, Volodymyr Omelchenko, Director of Energy Programs at the Razumkov Center, said that the electricity situation in Ukraine should remain stable in October and November. However, with the start of the heating season, electricity consumption will increase, leading to a shortage.

Inna Sovsun, a member of the Ukrainian Parliament from the "Holos" party, also stressed that blackouts are almost certain in the winter. During peak consumption periods, Ukraine is only able to supply about 70% of consumption.
