On Thursday, January 16, the Prime Minister of the UK, Keir Starmer, arrived in Kyiv for negotiations with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy. According to the Associated Press report, the 100-year agreement to be signed by Starmer and Zelenskyy covers key areas such as security, science, energy, and trade.

Separate consideration will be given to strengthening maritime security, as well as monitoring Ukrainian grain illegally exported from the occupied territories and developing unmanned technologies.

The United Kingdom has already provided £12.8 billion in aid since the start of the war and has announced an additional £40 million ($49 million — Ed.) for post-war reconstruction.

Starmer’s unannounced visit is actually his first trip to Ukraine since taking office in July. He visited the country in 2023 when he was leader of the opposition and held talks with Zelenskyy twice at 10 Downing Street since becoming the Prime Minister.

During his meeting with Zelenskyy, Starmer claimed that the two countries had reached a new level of strategic cooperation. He emphasized that it is important for the UK to guarantee Ukraine's security for the next century.

"It's not just about what’s happening here and now, but also about investing in our two countries for the next century, combining technology, scientific achievements, and cultural exchanges, and harnessing the phenomenal innovation that Ukraine has demonstrated in recent years for future generations," Starmer noted.

According to Zelenskyy, who was quoted by AP News, he and Starmer will also discuss a plan proposed by the President of France Emmanuel Macron, which involves the deployment of troops from France and other Western countries in Ukraine to monitor compliance with the ceasefire agreement.

As a reminder, Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently said that Poland is preparing a new aid package for Ukraine, which will be the 46th in a row.
