North Korea to send reinforcements to Russia — NYT
North Korea is again planning to send its military to participate in the war in Ukraine on the side of Russia. This will happen within the next two months.
This was reported by The New York Times.
DPRK troops in Ukraine
According to The New York Times, North Korea has sent its troops to the Kursk region, where they operate as a separate combat force. In this area, there are mostly special forces that were previously trained for targeted operations, but the Russians are using them as regular infantry.
DPRK's losses in Ukraine
Last week, Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said that half of all North Korean soldiers in the Kursk region were "wounded or killed".
The North Korean military, unlike the Russian military, does not retreat even when it suffers heavy losses. After conquering territory, they do not hold it, but hand it over to Russian units. If injured, North Korean soldiers blow themselves up with a grenade to avoid capture.
Ukrainian intelligence reports that at least three generals and about 500 officers have arrived in Russia with the North Korean military.
Pentagon sources say the generals are working in Russian command headquarters, selecting targets for attacks.
Zelensky also said that the losses of the North Korean military in the Kursk region amounted to 4,000 people.
On January 21, Ukrainian troops captured a DPRK soldier.
At the same time, Ukraine declared its readiness to hand over the captured DPRK soldiers to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, but set certain conditions for this to happen.
