Smuggling worth $10.5 million since the beginning of the year — what was carried by citizens
The State Customs Service of Ukraine reported on the results of work for nine months. Since the beginning of the year, violations of customs rules amounting to almost 17 billion hryvnias ($413 million) have been detected, and money smuggling worth 430 million hryvnias ($10.5 million) has been seized.
This was reported by the press service of the State Customs Service of Ukraine on Wednesday, October 9.
Violation of customs rules
From January to September, custom office of the State Customs Service found out 7,259 violations of customs rules worth 17 billion hryvnias ($413 million).
"The value indicator increased by almost 2.5 times compared to the same period in 2023," the message said.
In 2,273 cases of customs rules violation, objects of offenses in the amount of 430 million hryvnias ($10.5 million) were temporarily seized.
What was transported by citizens :
• industrial goods to the value of 304 million hryvnias;
• vehicles worth more than 68 million hryvnias;
• food products to the value of more than 52 million hryvnias;
• currency for the sum of 6 million hryvnias.
"In 2,161 cases of customs rules violation, including those established in previous periods, the customs authorities applied an administrative penalty in the form of a fine in the amount of 58.6 million hryvnias, of which 57.9 million hryvnias were collected to the State Budget," the report stated.
Customs officials submitted 3,969 cases of customs rules violation to the courts in the amount of almost 16.6 billion hryvnias.
"According to the results of consideration of cases by the courts, including those initiated in previous periods, penalties (confiscation of goods and fines) in the amount of 1.9 billion hryvnias were imposed," the State Customs Service noted.
It should be reminded that two foreigners invented original methods of transporting prohibited substances to Ukraine: they hid drugs in our neck pillow. A service dog helped the customs officials to detect the contraband.
